We are a creative design company, focusing on the design and creation of unique, distinctive couture cakes for any occasion. From individual mini muffins to towering, multi-tiered wedding cakes and everything in between; we also love making novelty cakes!

Alternative because we strive to be more creative. We like to think outside the (cake)box, wherever possible mixing technology with traditional cake materials, to create truly unique designs.

Alternative because we offer a truly personal design service. We will sit down with you and discuss your exact requirements, find out the kind of things you like and dislike, and from there we’ll come up with a few ideas. Once you’ve chosen a design we can fine tune it and when everyone’s happy we’ll make your cake.

As an Alternative source for people with special dietary requirements. We can make your cake nut-free, gluten-free, animal fat-free, low in sugar for if you suffer from diabetes and we even make a delicious egg-free cake that is equally as good as a traditional sponge; read full details of our eggless adventures here!

We believe in good, honest food and all our cakes are made from traditional recipes using simple, quality ingredients. We don’t use artificial sweeteners, but like to keep things as natural as possible.

Creative Director and cake designer Colette Veale-Clark established Alternative Cake Company in 2009 having spent the previous 10 years creating weird and wonderful cakes for friends and family; the goal of Alternative Cake Company is to continue and develop this work for a wider market.

From her early school years it became apparent that Colette was destined for some form of creative role and she soon found her interests in the arts and design. Early in her career life she spent time working in the family business – Studio Engineering – where she developed her attention to detail under the tutelage of her father.

Growing up in Hertfordshire and frequenting the rolling countryside of Wales Colette learnt from a very young age, to appreciate the beauty of nature and the ways in which it provides for all living things in many different ways. Being a creative individual with an inquisitive mind for the strange and unusual, Colette was often referred to as a free spirit.

Colette loved creating and designing using a vast array of mediums but it was only in 1998 that Colette’s true passion was found in the art of sugar and cake. Experimenting with traditional family recipes and looking at ways upon which she could improve them, Colette repeatedly tested her recipes on family and friends, as she continued to refine them in the pursuit of excellence; the recipes we use today are a direct result of all the refinements.

Now Colette creates beautiful custom cakes in her own unique style for which Alternative Cake Company is renowned. Offering a wide range of scrumptious cake flavours and fillings, using her own perfected recipes, Colette continues to develop her products and unique flavours, using only quality ingredients, which she then combines with her creative flair and artistic talent, to create unique one-of-a-kind cakes, all tailor made with you in mind.
